Hootenanny

hootenanny

A "hootenanny" is a casual gathering of singers and instrumentalists celebrating the art of music; the word is slang and comes from American folk music in the 1940s.  According to legend, young cowboy performer Hoot Gibson and his wife, Annie, threw highly anticipated parties with jam sessions until all hours of the morning.  So the best parties were “at Hoot 'n' Annie's.”
